Before you visit an abortion clinic or provider, prepare for your own health and safety.
Is the abortion provider I contacted safe, legal, and authorized to perform abortions?
Crossroads has a “Patient’s Rights” form that you should obtain to protect your own health and safety when searching for an abortion doctor. Find out the name of the doctor who will perform your abortion procedure, and confirm that he or she is a licensed physician and a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. Ask if the doctor what will happen if there is an emergency. Where will you be treated, and who will treat you? Be sure the abortion doctor hasn’t been involved in any medical lawsuits by call the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners at 504.568.6820 to see if the doctor has been involved in any medical malpractice suits.
What if I change my mind?
Abortion is your choice—you can change your mind at any time. It’s OK to say, “I need more time to consider my decision,” - even if you are in the waiting room or on the table ready for your procedure. Don’t feel pressured to proceed just because you feel like you have to. It’s your body, your baby, and your decision; you have the right to listen to your instincts.
